Governing Body:

The governing body of PSAHPERD will be the Board of Directors which includes the Executive Committee and the Directors, as elected by the membership.

Executive Committee: (Officers of PSAHPERD)

  • President

    • Three-year term serving as President-Elect, President, and Past President.

    • Elected to the Board by membership vote

  • President-Elect

  • Past President

  • Executive Director (Employee - non-voting)


Board of Directors (BOD):

  • Consists of at least 9 and no more than 13 members

    • Members of the BOD will serve a three-year term with a limit of two consecutive terms  (Six years total)

    • To serve on the BOD, interested candidates will:

      • Apply for the position via application to be vetted by the Governance Committee (formerly known as the Structure and Function committee)

      • Qualified applicants will be interviewed by the Executive Committee

      • After interviews, all potential candidates will be presented to the entire PSAHPERD membership for a vote

      • Only 1/3 of the BOD positions will be elected each year to ensure consistency and continuity

Meetings

  • Meeting of the Board of Directors and/or committees will be held monthly online

    • In person meetings will occur at the annual state convention and as needed

    • Board Decisions

      • Items requiring a vote will be determined by a simple majority (one more than half)

Committees  

  • Standing committees will be established to complete tasks assigned by the Board of Directors in accordance with the strategic plan

  • Ad hoc committees will be formed to handle short-term goals in accordance with the strategic plan

Membership Categories

Membership to PSAHPERD is available to all persons interested in achieving overall wellness in PA through health and physical education.

  • Professional - Upon the payment of annual dues, professional members shall receive all membership benefits as specified by the Board of Directors and will have the right to vote and to hold office

  • Student -  is available to all students enrolled in professional preparation programs at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral level.  Student members shall receive all membership benefits as specified by the Board of Directors and will have the right to vote. They have the right to hold office

  • Retired -  Retired Membership is available to all persons upon retirement. Upon payment of annual dues, retired members shall receive all membership benefits as specified by the Board of Directors and will have the right to vote and to hold office

  • Group -  is available to a school district/building, organization, or college/university groups. Upon payment of annual dues, group members shall receive all membership benefits as specified by the Board of Directors and will have the right to vote and to hold office

Changes

  • Executive Committee (54 member Board) replaced with a Board of Directors (13 voting  members - 1 non-voting member, the Executive Director)

    • The new Board of Directors for 2019 will commence their positions on January 1, 2019 for a two-year term

    • During the transition year, the Directors will be vetted and approved by the interview team:

      • Matt Trout, President-Elect, and Committee Chair

      • Rick Stevenson, Parliamentarian

      • Colleen Wegimont, President

      • Jen Rudella, VP-Elect of Health

      • Jennifer Butz, VP-Elect of Physical Education

      • Jessica Peconi-Cook, Executive Director  (non-voting)

  • The Representative Assembly will be replaced by a membership vote

    • A member forum will be held at the annual meeting of PSAHPERD to solicit feedback and field questions from the membership, and to meet the incoming Board of Directors

  • Bylaws to reflect the new structure will be drafted and presented for approval to the PSAHPERD governing body by the end of the first quarter of 2019.
