Hannah Brewer, Professor from Slippery Rock University presents...

"Whole School Whole Community Whole Child: A Collaborative Approach to Learning and Health"

  • Why We Need a Collaborative Approach to Learning and Health
  • The Need for a New Model (WSCC )
  • The WSCC Model (Expanded from 8 Elements of Coordinated School Health)

Background: In 2011, the Association for Supervision, Curriculum, and Development (ASCD) published The Healthy School Communities Model: Aligning Health and Education in the School Setting, and requested a paradigm shift in how learning and health are viewed. In 2013, ASCD collaborated with leaders from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and professionals from the fields of school
health, public health, and education to develop the next evolution of school health and wellness.  The result is the 2014 launch of the WSCC model. The new model was created to ensure that the health of the student, the teacher, and the school are taken seriously by educators and, specifically, by those involved in the school improvement process.
